Collecting celebrity autographs used to just be a great way to impress your friends and acquaintances by proving you have really met a celebrity. In the past this was a harmless and inexpensive hobby, today if you have a collection of celebrity autographs you could make some money depending on how you use your collection and who the celebrities are whose autographs you have collected.
If it's an up and coming star or some "wannabe" celebrity then do not expect people to be impressed. Or, for example, you got the autograph of the winner of, "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" or the latest youngster who made their way on the ladder of success through American Idol then you may not get much appreciation. However, if you have the autograph of some established stars like Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt or some famous stars of yester years then not only would you be admired but also people would like to hear your story of how you met them and where you got the autograph-and maybe even toss you a few dollars in exchange for the autograph.
Celebrity autographs today can fetch you great money. It could be reprinted on a mug, a t-shirt or a thousand other collectible items and you could make a bunch of money. You could also hold your own auction or sell them on sites like eBay.
Today autographs are a big business and no longer are just children collecting them but even older men and women want to collect them to auction them, either on the internet or design their own collectibles like re-printing the autograph-assuming there is no copyright law against it.
To ensure that your collectibles are genuine, irrespective of who endorsed it, that is whether it is a movie star or a musician or a sports personality try contacting the star personally. This may involve attending every premier or buying the tickets for every match or seeking a pass to every concert but all this hard work will bear fruit and you will not just have a firsthand encounter with the star but a genuine autograph too (something a lot of people consider priceless!)
You will find that most celebrities are more than willing to give autographs. Just tell them how big a fan you are and how much you appreciate their work. Do not tell them that you are collecting the autograph to sell at your online shop or on eBay.
Autographs collected in person have the absolute maximum value but you could even obtain one by mail, avoid buying though as that is hardly a collection and finally collecting an autograph is all about your appreciation of the star-so how much will you appreciate them if you have to pay for the autograph?
People who want autographs through real contact with stars actually do so by constantly hanging around their cities or places they frequent but they may not always be people who are fans, they may just be trying to obtain the autograph to sell it later. These people work in places where the stars hang out just to get the autographs. They try to gather information from the drivers or gate attendant but not all celebrities' sign, especially when they know that the autograph seeker is not a genuine fan. So when you see a celebrity do not try smart tricks but if you are a genuine fan the celebrity will surely oblige you-and it'll be worth your while!
