Hello and welcome to our story - The World of Titanic from the heart of Belfast.This community idea was conceived and developed in the shadow of the Gargantuan Thompson Dock, situated here on Queens Island in Belfast. The dock, the largest of its time in the world, is fast approaching it's 100th birthday, just like the Olympic class liners she was built to serve. The dock is now the centre piece of the Northern Ireland Science Park, which is an important ingredient in the emergence of a new, bright and vibrant Belfast and Northern Ireland, part of a renewed and vibrant island economy (as economies go of course!)
Belfast is a city with a pedigree for Engineering marvel and scientific breakthrough. It's fitting therefore that we promote our 21st Century aspirations from the shadow of a remnant of our industrial past that can relate the good, the bad and also unfortunately, the downright ugly side of business, progress and development. The Thompson Dock is also the closest thing in our world to an actual footprint of RMS Titanic and her sister ships, Olympic and Britannic.
Through our community of contributors, we hope to bring you new and interesting stories, information, news and events from the World of Titanic. We will be working with our friends from Belfast Titanic Society whom have cherished the memory of Titanic and Belfast's maritime achievements with a care, love and guardianship that has endured during our nation's journey to come to terms with the legacy of Titanic and through our most troubled times too.
We welcome contributions from the wider Titanic family – people whom for whatever reason feel an affiliation and kinship with her memory and story. We hope to engage and inspire this family to commemorate and celebrate her memory and discuss the eternal lessons she serves to provide us.
