help answering a question on a animation questionaire for college?!?
okay i have an interview tomorrow for a college course i really want to get ('animation'...but im also applying for 'visual communications' and 'modelmaking, design & Digital effects'....)!
they asked me to fill out a questionaire for it, and the questions are a bit difficult to answer so any help is appreciated!
Q1. what contemporary artists/film-makers/writers/photographers/designers/animators act are you interested in? why?
(for this Q i was thinking of putting in Dreamworks and pixar, along with the british stencil artist Banksy? is that appropiate and who else could i include?!)
please answer! any help atall would be great!
Any answer of yours is fine, right? They're questions that involve your own personal opinion, so there is no "wrong" answer. However, including a wide variety of artists of any kind would, I'm sure, be greatly appreciated. Personally, I'm not into all that, but say, for example, that you do chose Pixar. Why do you like it so much? It's probably because of the way the result looks in the end, how so much effort can go into creating something lifelike and unbelievable. Or it could be something totally different, your call.
As for everything else, I'm afraid I can't help you with any names. However, I'm sure if you go into the animated films that are your favorites and look in the credits, you'll probably find you favorite film-maker. If it helps, you could actually search that maker online, and see what other films they have made. If you see some titles that you enjoyed, you're in luck. As for writers, wouldn't any books with authors still alive count? Personally, I do enjoy Tamora Pierce, Emily Rodda, Hilari Bell, and others. And then talk about how those authors are interesting in the way that they write, and how they show emotion and beauty through the characters.
I'm not a photograph, so I know nothing, and same as for artists. But...: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_contemporary_artists should help you out a bit. Surf around, look at their art, find some more interesting artists and use them. It's best to use ones really unique, which shows that you actually know something about art and know how to interpret the what the artist is conveying through whatever media.
Now, on the topic of animation...I'm not sure what I can say to this. If you're going to be so desperately wanting to get into this course, make sure you have a well-rounded knowledge of the different types of animation out there. I personally prefer the Japanese anime kind, but, whatever. And then you must show that you know these through your answers, through examples or subtle mentioning. Once you get into it, though, I'm sure you'll do just fine.
Hope that helped a bit, if at all.
Owsley Stanley: Sound engineer and muse to the Grateful Dead whose LSD laboratory helped shape Sixties counterculture
The original jam band, The Grateful Dead owed their huge popularity to their marathon live concerts rather than the studio recordings they made between 1965 and 1995. Much of their early success can be attributed to the activities of the colourful counterculture figure Owsley "Bear" Stanley. A long-time associate of the psychedelic group from San Francisco, Stanley manufactured LSD on an ...
